As for the US involvement, Akbarzadeh pressed that the US is already involved through supplying weaponry.
“The Israeli military hardware is supplied by the United States, and the United States provides support in shooting down various Iranian missiles,” he said.
Targeting underground nuclear facilities, however, requires more direct US involvement, as only it has weaponry to hit underground, the professor said.
Akbarzadeh added: “And it’s not just a matter of targeting the nuclear facilities … The agenda for Netanyahu is regime change.”

We have those who want Trump to be the peace-making diplomatic president that he promised he would be during his inauguration speech.
There is also the impulse from the war hawks for the US to be more involved in potentially bombing Iran directly, which Trump has also threatened to do.
As far as which side he is on, it really appears to be whatever sounds more impressive to him at the moment.

Tohid Asadi, a writer and specialist in Iranian affairs, told Al Jazeera that Iranian officials are making “double-edged statements.” On the one hand, they claim they are not “warmongers”, and at the same time, they are saying, “We are not afraid of war”. Asadi explained that this means if Israel demonstrates aggression towards Iran, there will be “tough consequences”. He said the message from Tehran is clear, that its patience has reached a limit. He said Tehran is still seeking de-escalation, but if Israel “decides to continue this insatiable desire to expand the battlefield, there is going to be [a] crushing response”.
An Iranian source has told Al Jazeera that Iran has sent a message to the United States, via Qatar, addressing the rising regional tensions. In the message, Tehran told Washington that “the phase of unilateral self-restraint has ended.” It also said any Israeli attack would meet an “unconventional response” that includes targeting Israeli infrastructure.
