UN warns Gaza faces starvation as Israel imposes tight control over limited food aid deliveries

Israel will permit minimal food aid to Gaza temporarily, but PM Netanyahu insists on controlling distribution to block Hamas. In an Al Jazeera interview, UN OCHA’s Olga Cherevko called the move insufficient after 10 weeks of total blockade, stressing that Gaza faces “catastrophic” conditions with starvation looming.

She noted UN mechanisms already prevent aid diversion, citing their ceasefire-era efficiency, and urged fully reopened crossings. Amid ongoing military operations—audible during her remarks—Cherevko emphasised that “principled” large-scale access and commercial revival are critical.

Netanyahu’s restrictions clash with humanitarian needs, as even basic aid now could save lives.

The UN maintains that political controls must not override urgent delivery of food and medicine.

Gaza’s population remains trapped between war and bureaucratic constraints.
