More than a million Muslims from around the world are in Mecca for the annual Hajj.
Pilgrims have begun walking to Mount Arafat for prayer and reflection, on what’s considered the most important day of Hajj.
Mount Arafat is where Muslims believe the Prophet Muhammad gave his last sermon.
Temperatures on Thursday are expected to soar past 40 degrees Celsius, and Saudi authorities have advised pilgrims to remain indoors from 10am to 4pm.
It is believed that Prophet Muhammad delivered his final speech, known as the Farewell Sermon, at the sacred mount 1,436 years ago. In the sermon, the prophet called for equality and unity among Muslims.
