At least seven Israeli soldiers were killed in Gaza in one of the deadliest single incidents in the besieged Palestinian Strip so far this year. According to The Jerusalem Post, the soldiers died following an explosion in the southern city of Khan Younis on Tuesday. The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claims its fighters fired rocket-propelled grenades at an Israeli force sheltering in a house in southern Khan Younis and then opened fire, stating that all the soldiers in the force were killed or injured. Israel’s military has released the names of six of the soldiers killed and is withholding the name of the seventh until his family has been notified. Another soldier from the same 605th Combat Engineering Battalion was reportedly seriously injured in a separate incident in southern Gaza, according to the military. In January 2024, at least 24 Israeli soldiers were also killed in a single day in Gaza.
