Since October 7, 2023, at least 1,581 medical workers have been killed, including 157 doctors, 366 nurses, 103 pharmacists, 254 medical assistants, and 611 administrative and support staff, according to Ministry of Health data.
Meanwhile, 362 medical staff have been arrested since the start of the war, including 88 doctors, 132 nurses, 72 medical assistants, and 47 administrative employees, along with others from pharmaceutical and health fields.
This coincides with a critical shortage of medicines, supplies, and medical equipment, preventing timely treatment for patients and causing many deaths.
According to the Government Media Office, all 38 hospitals have been bombed, destroyed, or put out of service, in addition to 82 medical centers and 164 health institutions. A total of 144 ambulances and 54 civil defense vehicles have also been targeted.
The Ministry of Health warns of an imminent catastrophe as the already fragile system collapses. Al-Bursh reported that 18,000 wounded require rehabilitation, including 718 children among 4,800 amputation cases.
Meanwhile, 22,000 patients need treatment abroad but are blocked by Israel from traveling, and 12,500 cancer patients face death due to treatment interruptions. Around 350,000 chronic disease patients are suffering from the ban on essential medicines.
More than two million people have been infected with communicable diseases, including 71,338 cases of hepatitis. At the same time, 1.2 million children face “severe food insecurity.”
